Literature in South Africa
By Jonathan and Nick
South
Africa’s Literature is a combination of all ethnic groups
in South Africa.
Traditionally, literature consisted of only the spoken word, but in recent
times this literature is has been written down to assure its remembrance.
Although works were often written
in Africa’s ethnic languages, much of the
literature produced was English. Even with so much language diversity however,
these works lacked an important form of writing: prose.
In the 1920’s the literature of South Africa
was further broadened, as writers such as Jochem Van Bruggen, began to create works of prose as well.
South’s Africa
literature is amazingly diverse, consisting of mostly poetry, and some prose,
traditional literature and modern works. Without a doubt, the needed growth in South Africa
can be attributed to the literature it produces.
